Zombie Disco Squad – Twerk E.P.

Written by . Filed under House. Tagged , , , . No comments.

Zombie Disco Squad‘s latest E.P. drops on May 14th, two weeks prior to the album ‘Brains’ being released (may. The E.P. title track Twerk samples DJ funk vocals ‘twerk that shit to the floor’ for a bass dropping, booty poppin’, show stopping ….house heater. My personal favourite however, is Ibiza hooligan on the B-side. Make sure you check them both out, and the Zombie Disco Squad album ‘Brains’ when it drops.
Oh and as an added bonus, here’s the promo for the booty infused Twerk video:

Jimmy Edgar – U Need Luv // Lauhaus & Kabale Und Liebe – Hiphouse

We haven’t even begun to unleash some of the new music we’ve been given/found in the past couple of weeks. I thought it would be best to unleash two dance floor heaters as a preliminary warm up to the huge post that will ensue. First up we have the Detroit born and Berlin raised Jimmy Edgar, with his phenomenal ‘U Need Luv‘. It’s a great homage to sleazy 90′s house music but doesn’t follow the typical sound of Jimmy Edgar, but never fear if this isn’t your cup of tea, he has a new album coming out on Hotflush pretty soon.

The second selection ‘Hiphouse’ is exactly that, Hip House. Using Eric B & Rakim’s ‘I know you got soul’, ‘Lauhaus & Kabale Und Liebe’ effortlessly turn it into a driving house track that would make even the most critical of us enjoy it. The vocals aren’t shoe horned in like other tracks that have been taking hip hop influence of late, and the actual groove is pretty damn good. Definitely one to suprise the crowd with.

Johnny Mikes – butterfly

So Johnny Mikes Butterfly was released a couple months back, but is still doing the rounds in my head. Butterfly works its magic every time, with a bass beat and vocal loop that is sure to get your ass moving. It appears Deep house is sounding more and more like an 80′s New York basement club. Old school funk riffs and hip hop 808 claps and breaks, No complaints here.
Make sure you also check out his Mix for Lower East below.

This week we go way back to the mid 90′s when Will.i.am was producing good music and not selling out to commercial success. He teams up with Terry Dexter who provides the soulful vocals. Also on the plate this week is 9th wonders ‘enjoy’ featuring Warren G, Murs, and Kendrick Lemar. It sounds incredible on a big system!

I guess its true, London really is the Capital of the world.

Usher – Lemme See

Written by . Filed under Hip Hop, R'n'B. Tagged . No comments.

Usher knows how to be an artist. He waits years between albums so he can’t be pigeon holed to a sound, then hooks up with current producers and delivers the same old R’n'B lyrics. When I say the same old R’n'B lyrics, I mean its like Rappers bragging about all the things they possess, or metal heads shouting about death, pain and suffering. I might be generalising a bit, but for the past 20 years R’n'B lyrics haven’t really changed in the slightest, it’s how it will always be.
This new track from Usher is a decent follow up to the Diplo produced ‘climax‘, and gives a good indication his album ‘Looking for myself’ (set to drop June 12th) is going to be a power house of modern R’n'B. Joining Usher on the track is the Bowse, Rick Ross, but just isn’t needed. It would have been nicer to see a rapper with something to say. All the ‘i’m ballin’ like le bron’ and ‘G5′s, i’m talking fly’ lines are beyond played out. Verdict? nothing ground breaking.

Sunday Slow Jam

This has to be the worst weekend in 2012 as far as the weather is concerned. So stay out the rain filled gutters and let us order you 2x 90′s classics and 1x New Nas track. First up is Soul for Real’s infamous ‘Candy Rain’ with a remix twist from track masters and the late Heavy D. Johnny Gill follows it up with his classic ‘Rub you the right way’, which has that sound of Michael Jackson crossed with Bell Biv DaVoe.
Nas has finally released his second track from his upcoming album ‘Life is good’ which is out in a few months time. It touches on the subject of his daughter (obviously), and all the recent press about what the 17 year old has been saying on twitter. check them out…

Rap Up 24/04/12

Mykki Blanco hails from New york and has hooked up with Brenmar to produce ‘Wavvy’. Brenmar has been super busy doing a whole heap of remixes since he burst onto the global radar last year with taking it down, and with this track he shows no bounds in his production talent. Check it out…

Russ’ ‘Corleone’ is some what reminiscent of a 9th Wonder production. It’s laid back, soulful, old school sounding, yet has current and relevant lyrics for the modern world. When I say current and relevant, I really mean monotonous rappers bragging about how good they are, and how much they have in life.
Still, Russ’ flow works well and as a track, its nice to listen to.

Russ – Corleone

A-rayz is an 18 year old producer straight out of Lexington, MA. At only 18 he’s set for a bright future in the production world, if he keeps coming with great tracks such as this. Check out his (probably not his) soundcloud for more instrumentals here. On this track he teams up with EQ, who’s voice and flow feels slightly forced, but delivers the hook nicely.

EQ – Fuck you cupid

Asap Rocky needs no introduction. Personally he’s not my cup of tea, as he doesn’t really have anything to say, but then again what rapper does these days!? On ‘Goldie’ he teams up with Hit-Boy on the Production, who is also young like A-Rayz and doing the rounds for a lot of high profile rappers.
