Usher – Lemme See

Usher knows how to be an artist. He waits years between albums so he can’t be pigeon holed to a sound, then hooks up with current producers and delivers the same old R’n'B lyrics. When I say the same old R’n'B lyrics, I mean its like Rappers bragging about all the things they possess, or metal heads shouting about death, pain and suffering. I might be generalising a bit, but for the past 20 years R’n'B lyrics haven’t really changed in the slightest, it’s how it will always be.
This new track from Usher is a decent follow up to the Diplo produced ‘climax‘, and gives a good indication his album ‘Looking for myself’ (set to drop June 12th) is going to be a power house of modern R’n'B. Joining Usher on the track is the Bowse, Rick Ross, but just isn’t needed. It would have been nicer to see a rapper with something to say. All the ‘i’m ballin’ like le bron’ and ‘G5′s, i’m talking fly’ lines are beyond played out. Verdict? nothing ground breaking.

This has to be the worst weekend in 2012 as far as the weather is concerned. So stay out the rain filled gutters and let us order you 2x 90′s classics and 1x New Nas track. First up is Soul for Real’s infamous ‘Candy Rain’ with a remix twist from track masters and the late Heavy D. Johnny Gill follows it up with his classic ‘Rub you the right way’, which has that sound of Michael Jackson crossed with Bell Biv DaVoe.
Nas has finally released his second track from his upcoming album ‘Life is good’ which is out in a few months time. It touches on the subject of his daughter (obviously), and all the recent press about what the 17 year old has been saying on twitter. Its a Sunday slow jam, check them out…

Mykki Blanco hails from New york and has hooked up with Brenmar to produce ‘Wavvy’. Brenmar has been super busy doing a whole heap of remixes since he burst onto the global radar last year with taking it down, and with this track he shows no bounds in his production talent. Check it out…

Russ’ ‘Corleone’ is some what reminiscent of a 9th Wonder production. It’s laid back, soulful, old school sounding, yet has current and relevant lyrics for the modern world. When I say current and relevant, I really mean monotonous rappers bragging about how good they are, and how much they have in life.
Still, Russ’ flow works well and as a track, its nice to listen to.

A-rayz is an 18 year old producer straight out of Lexington, MA. At only 18 he’s set for a bright future in the production world, if he keeps coming with great tracks such as this. Check out his (probably not his) soundcloud for more instrumentals here. On this track he teams up with EQ, who’s voice and flow feels slightly forced, but delivers the hook nicely.

Asap Rocky needs no introduction. Personally he’s not my cup of tea, as he doesn’t really have anything to say, but then again what rapper does these days!? On ‘Goldie’ he teams up with Hit-Boy on the Production, who is also young like A-Rayz and doing the rounds for a lot of high profile rappers.

Get your chops around this Saturday party. Feast’s day parties have gone from strength to strength and it doesn’t look like they are going to be letting up anytime soon. They always deliver the best house music has to offer and the atmosphere is always good. Make sure you don’t miss Butch in a couple of weeks as it looks set to be going strong from early on.

When I first heard ‘Darondo – didn’t I’ over a decade ago, I wasn’t sure if it was a man or a woman singing at first. On ‘Didn’t I’ he manages to piece together funk and soul seamlessly into a down tempo affair, reminiscent to that of Ron Isley and Al Green. He opened a show for James Brown back in the 70′s and released 3 singles but was never given the credit he deserved like others in his genre. All I know is this is a top 10 in my favourite summertime tracks.

Usher’s Climax is next on the cards. I know its old in terms of the internet, but it just keeps growing and growing on you. I hated this the first time I heard it and now I can’t stop listening to it, so don’t dismiss it just yet.

London Dirtybird BBQ

 London Dirtybird BBQ
About ten days ago London played host to a Dirtybird BBQ with a phenomenal line up of artists. It went from 3pm to 6am with an after party going from 6am to 12 noon on the Sunday, and I think I can speak for all when saying it was incredible, a sweat box, but incredible non the less. A mass of DJs/artists who weren’t even playing came down to scope the talent and get sweaty.
Here’s the first video of the night from Point blank, who will be posting up artist interviews shortly. Make sure you follow @SPLagency on twitter too, as they host some of the best parties around.

Loose Synths X Mimm

Our friends Loose synths are back this Saturday at Meter, formerly known as The C.A.M.P. Its free entry all night and goes on till 4am, so get down early, grab some food, and then drink yourself into a coma. This month the half German giant known as Spam Chop is playing, along side the Resident advisor one to watch, TOYC. He’ll be going back to back with Epworth, and the Loose synths residents Shooting Horses and Spokes polish things off.

If you want to know more on Spam Chop then simply Google him. What I will say quickly though is his height is matched by his production and DJ capabilities, and the Wigflex head honcho isn’t one to follow fads or trends. Ever since I met him about 6 years ago he was crafting his style of tech-house/techno/electronica, championing the independent scene, and turning up at places you never thought to check out sounds that interested him.

Finally You are probably wondering who MIMM are? Well, they are located in the heart of Hockley, Nottingham, and combine the worlds of fashion, art and music by pushing unique and individual clothing, audio/visual music events, art exhibitions, and a forward thinking record label. Make sure you check out their store here.
