An oldie but a classic from The Beatnuts, and just in time to see your 2012 out. What ever you do in 2013, Make it count.
Sunday Slow Jam
Sunday Slow Jam this week see’s a throw back from Hi-tek and Talib kweli’s ‘Reflection Eternal’. I could have picked any of the tracks from the album, but having heard this beat on multiple mixtapes over the years, it smashes it every time. The name of the track is pretty apt for all those who failed to get a Glastonbury ticket too…

Acumen & Timid Boy – Chicago Story
Still have a lot of love for Acumen & Timid Boy – Chicago Story. Released back in 2010, its still grinding away in my record bag…
Looking out at the earth one night…
If there is one thing you should do today, its watch this. It really puts your ‘whining about not getting a Glastonbury ticket’ into perspective.
Blu & Exile – Give me my flowers while I can still smell them
Incase you missed Blu & Exile play their debut UK show on Thursday, or don’t have a clue who Blu & Exile are, don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you. The main reason is that Blu & Exile – Give me my flowers while I can still smell them is a decent album, but the production sounds like the cutting room floor of Q-tip and Dilla. Blu & Exile are decent rappers and the album holds some stand out tracks like ‘Maybe One Day feat. Black Spade’, but the whole album lacks ambition.
Blu & Exile keep in their comfort zone through out, and what they do, they do well. I just wish they had pushed the envelope out a bit further. Overall its a decent 3 out of 5 album, and definitely worth checking out here.

Blu & Exile – Maybe One Day (feat. Black Spade)
Sunday Slow Jam
It’s a swift Sunday Slow Jam this week. Surprisingly R Kelly is back and on Kanye’s Cruel Summer album. Apart from Mercy and clique, this is pretty much the only other track worth mentioning from the album. R Kelly returns with a new series of ‘Trapped in the closet’ in a couple of months too. Winner.

Moodtrap ‘Old Days In Chicago’
Moodtrap have built up a considerable head of steam since releasing their debut ‘Body to Body’ EP late last year. The meaty double header of ‘Make It Right’ / ‘Out Of Time’ followed in March cementing their reputation as a name to watch in 2012. The anonymous duo performed their debut live show at Fabric in London in July to a raptuous response on the dancefloor.
Moodtrap ‘Old Days In Chicago’ features a choice bluesey vocal sample and solid groove to make this track a must have in any DJ’s…. USB Key!?….
New mixes from Catz ‘n’ Dogz and Will Saul
As far as mixes go, I’d have to say Will Saul’s Fact mix is up there in my top ten of favourites, and this Boiler Room mix isn’t too shabby either! Make sure you get on the download…
We also have Catz ‘n’ Dogz North American Tour mix, which to their standards is pretty average. But to everyone else’s standards it’s amazing. I have to hold my hands up and say they have produced one of the best sets of 2012 so far, and on this mix they show exactly why they are so good. Catz ‘n’ Dogz effortlessly combine house, deep house, tech house, and techno, but with a track selection that’s second to none, which isn’t an easy feat.

Brick City Kids – What What
Apparently ‘Brick City Kids – What What’ came before artifacts were called artifacts and released classic after classic. All I know is that its a jam and as one person commented when they heard it…”Imagine one day you wake up, turn on the radio and hear this”…
